Module 2 Written Assignment: Aspects of Ballet

During the reading you chose one of two classical ballets to watch - either Swan Lake or Giselle. Reply to the prompt for the ballet you watched. Demonstrate the knowledge you gained about romantic and classical ballet. As with other written assignments, respond in essay form. If you want a concrete number, three paragraphs of 300-350 words is a reasonable length, but you certainly could be more terse or long-winded and still do a good job. This assignment is worth four points.
Giselle Prompt:
In what ways did Giselle exemplify romantic ballet? How did the dance style of the first act differ from the dance style of the second act? Why do you think the choreographer made those choices?
What aspect of Giselle did you most enjoy? Explain.
Swan Lake Prompt:
In what ways were the choreographer in his creation, and the ballerina in her execution, able to differentiate the character of Odette from Odile? How did the Act 2 pas de deux of the white swan and the prince differ from the Act 3 pas de deux of the black swan and the prince?
What aspect of Swan Lake did you most enjoy? Explain.
